Yes, and additionally it wouldn't work on him - I presume, these items don't usually work on the personal demons - and likely he can hear everything we're discussing.
It is fine, so long as you have not been stupid enough to wander around threatening to kill him. Even then, it is probably fine. He is remarkably tolerant.
