Why? Evidence doesn't always stand out until it's relevant. You probably wouldn't have realised at the time what it was.

Who would've suspected that fucking octopus would be involved?

If he didn't remember, he wouldn't even be trying to hide them. That's not a jab, by the way, it's a point. How would he come across as suspcious and flag your attention if he didn't realise he had anything to be guilty about, or to hide?

Yeah. You've got a point. [he frowns] It would've been easier if he was trying to hide it. Then I could've gotten mad.

Easier to be suspicious when someone's trying to stop you seeing their neck, or arm while you're literally changing their clothes.

That this feels normal now.

All of us expected someone to die on Thursday night. All of us expected a trial today. All of us expect Lavi to die tomorrow.

And next week, we're gonna go on like we did this past week, and we're gonna expect all of this all over again. But there's nothing we can do to stop any of it.

... We could just not kill. That's what the demons have been saying. If we don't they get a day off, after all.

[ the last part said kinda dryly. ]

I would love it if that would happen. But.

[it definitely feels like wishful thinking at this point.]

This week it was a damn octopus that got him to kill. What's going to happen next week? With all these stupid effects and hell stuff?

So, if it looks like no one's taking the bait, a situation is engineered for someone to die. Is that what we're thinking?

Dunno. It's too soon to say. The first two definitely did it on their own... but I don't think Lavi would have if that octopus hadn't been there.

Even the demons didn't think he would have. Did you hear, they told me they took bets on who'd do it this week, and all of them were wrong?

Early in the trial? Yeah I think I remember that.

... He was awake though. I don't know if that was by chance or design.

That's what I don't get. If it's really just someone who plans to kill and the person that's gonna get killed awake at that time, then why...

Maybe they refused to do it. Maybe something here intervened.

Or maybe I’m just thinking they think too much about us. Maybe there really was just an angry, violently octopus out for a good time in the worst way possible.

...it better stay dead. I swear to god, if that octopus is alive and back in the tank on Monday, I'm really going to fucking lose it.
