Mhm. What they do is - well, if someone spills water on you from overhead and you get soaked, people get pretty mad, right? And so the people who work there will usually get them to come in, so they get a chance to give the person who did it a piece of their mind, or they lure them in with the promise of an apology and a clothes dryer. Then, usually, one thing leads to another, and they find themselves in a drinking, debauched haze, and then a couple hours later, they're out on the street in their boxers with all of their valuables gone.
[ he explains this with a touch of amusement, pushing his hands into his pockets and giving a gesture forward with his shoulders. onwards! back to our shopping! ] You'd be surprised on how easy it is to convince people to do things when they're angry. They almost got Lin with it, the first time we went to Milky Way City, because he's a First Galaxy hotshot who'd never met a poor person in his life until he came to the Eighth.
I managed to defuse the entire thing before he even knew what was going on. We were halfway down the street after I said goodbye to the ladies before he figured it out, and I had to stop him and keep him from going back in there to try and kill someone.
[ help his incredibly feral lin ] It was kind of cute, actually. Even the great Marshal's a sucker to the Eighth.
[i managed to get back to sleep and woke up just in time for my shift..........]
Sounds like that would've been absolutely hilarious to see. [he glances back at the window the water had come out of before...] ...hopefully the demons won't try that on him here though. For their sake and his.
[ it's wild to hear someone talk about ancient earth tokyo like it's not a whole ass planet.... wow.... ]
I think, across time, some things are always going to be the same. Like - cities are always going to be lively, and people like me and you are always going to thrive in them. Right?
Across time, across space - there's so many different worlds out there than I ever realized existed. When I get back to Tokyo, no one's gonna believe me about all the stuff I've seen and heard about here.
They'd only publish it as fiction anyway! But it kinda sounds like that sort of thing would be more legit where you come from. Are you gonna write about any of this?
[ he thinks about that for a moment, actually? making a thoughtful noise. ]
Well - not anytime soon. I don't really have time to do... anything. Maybe when I retire! I told Lin I just want to be a house husband when I'm done in politics - I could definitely pick up an author gig on the side.
[ he allows himself like. two minutes to fantasize about that for a second. taking care of the kids... getting a dog... writing a novel about his hell adventures...getting a dog.... ]
How long are you in office for, anyway? It's not gonna be a lifetime thing for you, is it? My old man and my uncle are, like, ancient, and they don't seem like they're gonna retire anytime soon...
[ he tries not to make a face but fails at not making a face, and then rubs the back of his neck. ]
That isn't to say that I'm not grateful, and I'm happy to help, but... I really just came into power through succession and necessity. I want to set up an electoral system once things at home calm down so I can step down. So...hopefully just another year or so. Maybe less.
You've got this! Worst case scenario, if it goes on for too long without an electoral system getting set up, appoint a good successor who will carry the torch and then, like, IDK - be a house husband and an elections activist.
[ i love that kuranosuke says IDK verbally. we stan. bixing laughs, though. ]
I think the last thing I want to be is a very old, irrelevant person with far too much power. And... honestly, I don't think politics is very fulfilling, anyway. Being here reminded me of some things; I have an academy to rebuild. And a dog to adopt. God, I really want a dog.
Ooh, what kind of dog? ...and the academy getting rebuilt's gonna be great. There's a bunch of people out there who'd be totally lucky to have you as a teacher.
